It's been a year since I switched from a Wordpress site to SquareSpace (more about that below), so I thought I would try out a different layout (template). I was using the "Wells" template and I've switched to the "Momentum" template. I like the menu bar on the bottom and the large images for the photo galleries, however portrait images don't display as well because they are stretched to fit full window. Minor issue, I just uploaded all landscape oriented images for my portfolio galleries.
As I mentioned, I switched to SquareSpace last year and I couldn't be happier. I know SquareSpace cost $30 per month, but it's well worth it to me. It's been reliable, easy to use, pretty much set it & forget it. They handle all of the back end maintenance, all I have to do is come up with something to write and upload my images. What little I've needed tech support, they've been very prompt and helpful. I use two different monitoring services to check for uptime and it rarely goes down and when it has, it was for only seconds.
The Wordpress site had constant uptime & speed issues and just required so much time to maintain. I know the uptime & speed issues was the hosting company (maybe if that company spent less money on pretty race car drivers and super bowl commercials their product would be better, just saying). In fact, I was researching new hosting companies when I found SquareSpace.
Yes, there are zillions of free themes and plugins for Wordpress, but like they say "you get what you pay for". I used those free ones, I read the reviews and rating for each one before I installed them and they usually worked at first. But it never failed, Wordpress would come out with an update and boom something broke or one plugin wouldn't play nice with another plugin. Just more time wasted trying to fix the problem. The other option would be to buy premium plugins & themes that offer support, but you still have to do the leg work and some of them are not cheap.
Anyway, SquareSpace may not be perfect or have all of the options a Wordpress site can have, but it works great for me.
I hope you enjoy my site, Adam
