Stone Mountain Lake

I'll be visiting my brother, who lives north of Atlanta, next week. While I'm there we'll be taking a little trip up to The Great Smokey Mountain National Park for a couple of days. I'm so looking forward to getting outdoors and into some real woods and photographing away!

This post is also a test post, I'm using my iPad with my new Bluetooth Keyboard for the first time to post to the website (via the Squarespace App), Facebook and Google+, so we'll see how it all flows.

Beach Tourist

After hunting for months and being on waiting lists, I finally got a LEE Big Stopper yesterday!  I went out to Melbourne Beach this morning to test it out and although the clouds weren't moving very fast, at least there was some waves.  Then just after I finished getting setup and ready to fire off my first test shot, a group of snowbirds walked on to the sand and stopped right in front of me.  Now usually this would cause me to grumble some four letters words under my breath, but in this case it actually worked out nicely.

Warbirds

This past weekend was the open house at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in Titusville, FL.  With free admission for veterans and Florida residents, I had to go check it out and I'm glad I did.  Lots of cool aircraft and military memorabilia to look though and photograph.

All That Art

Creative Arts Foundation of Brevard presents "All That Art", is a juried Photo-Art Competition & Exhibition at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, Florida. I just found out my photograph "Approaching Storm, Grand Canyon" was selected and will be on display at the King Center from November 21st to December 12th, 2011.  Opening reception is November 21st from 4 to 7pm and is open to the public.

Erna Nixon Park

We've had some pretty nice weather here recently (temps in the 70's & low humidity), so I grabbed my infrared camera and visited a local park for a couple hours.   Erna Nixon Park (no relation, that I know of) is a nice little 54 acre community park in Melbourne, Florida.  It has a 1/2 mile hiking trail, most of which is on a boardwalk though a natural Florida hammock.  Like most hiking in Florida, the trail is flat and easy to walk.  Though it offers many photographic opportunities, from cabbage palms to large oak trees with hanging moss.  In fact the day I was there, about a dozen artists were in the park from a local painting club.

B&W Infrared, Part 1

Ever since I shot my first roll of B&W IR film many years ago, I’ve been hooked on it. I just love the look, with its soft white foliage, deep black skies and creamy skin on people. Even though the film was unpredictable and difficult to handle, I shot many rolls over the years. Because of those difficulties and the inability to process the film myself any more, I haven’t shot IR for quite some time.

I’ve tried over the years using many different faux techniques, but it was never quite the same. Although I still got some cool looking photos, I recently took the plunge and converted my old Canon 20D into a IR-only camera. With that, I thought I would dedicate a category just for Digital IR and talk about my experiences and some of the challenges I've already gone through.

Website Update

I’m in the process of remodeling & reorganizing all of my websites, starting with this one “www.AdamNixon.com”.  This site will be my blog for all things Photography, Lightroom, Photoshop, maybe a little WordPress thrown in for fun and of course lots of photos. My other two sites will be for selling my work. One site will be “www.NixonFineArt.com”, where my B&W Fine Art Prints will be made available. The second site is “www.DreiLuna.com”, where my Stock Photography will be available for downloading or prints.
